Even his fellow castmates thought his mannered performance was ruining the film. Bale had been in major films since childhood, like Steven Spielberg's "Empire Of The Sun" in 1987, but was yet to make his mark as an adult movie star. The studio wanted an established star to portray serial killer Patrick Bateman.
